Universal women's suffrage.
Beginning in the 1700s many societies began to agitate for women’s rights, including the right to vote. When won, these were often local exceptions to the rule of patriarchy, and nation-wide examples of woman suffrage do not emerge until the late 19th century. The first nations to grant woman suffrage were nearly all in Europe, or in places dominated by European colonialism. 1913-1920 universal woman suffrage spreads across Europe.
Women comprise more than half of the population and make history virtually everywhere.
On March 8, International Women's Day, we can celebrate as Amateur Radio operators and honour those women whose shoulders we stand on.
Remember Radio does not discriminate and has no Borders.

Where Are The Ladies Of Ham Radio? KM1NDY Mindy (USA)
Women have held their place in a hobby as male-dominated as Ham radio since the start of the 20th century. These resilient women of the early and mid 20th century laid the ground-work for the future female Ham operators to enter the hobby and make a mark.
1) radio is the ultimate tool for freedom of communication, and
2) I have never been part of anything (hobby or otherwise) that had so few women participants.
In my mind, this means that women are missing out on a huge chance to secure their personal freedom to communicate.
Radio, unlike the internet, is not so easy to control.
Me (KM1NDY) in the picture above, talking by Morse code with 6 watts, to Canada from the top of Mt. Norwottuck, Massachusetts. I could reduce that power even further and send out digital messages on WSJT-X type protocols such as JS8Call or FT8 itself. Tiny puffs of RF distributing my message around the world!
Internalize this next part because I do not think people really understand this:
I am a 100% complete radio station. There is no infrastructure — no cell phone tower, no internet, no repeater, NOTHING — between me and the person receiving my signal. Me, a radio, a battery, a coax cable, and a wire a few dozen feet long. My CW (morse code) keyer is strapped around my right thigh. Absolutely nothing else stands between me and getting my message out. Or receiving the response.
We ladies are ready consumers of technology products, but we are not creating it. At least not my circle of women, mostly middle-aged, and confident in their decry “I am just not technical.” I think it is time for us to “get technical.” And, ham radio is actually a brilliant way to start.
Ladies, there is a spot in ham radio–and in technology–for you. We really cannot afford to be left out of the conversation.

Indian YL features in World Radio Day.
UNESCO listed this documentary film for this year’s 2024 celebration. World Radio Day is celebrated every year on February 13. The theme for the year is, ‘A century of informing, educating and entertaining’. The documentary film, ‘My Radio, My Life’, is an interesting and nostalgic take on radio, most often referred to as the miracle of the 20th century. An era before the advent of television, mobile phones, and social media. The film explores how Radio influenced the lives of a few passionate individuals.
‘My Radio, My Life’, features VU2RBI Bharathi Devulapalli, a lady HAM operator from India. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AX7UnTXhcRo

Bharati Devapullavi, VU2RBI HER RADIO, HER LIFE AND HER FILM
The story of an influential YL, happy with her ham family and inspiring others around the world, would be a great subject for a movie, and now it has been. John Williams VK4JJW talks to us about her and the new documentary.
Although she doesn't feel like a movie star, Bharati Devapullavi is generating a lot of buzz on screen in a new one-hour documentary, "My Radio, My Life," which premiered on Friday, November 10. at the International Film Festival Africa. The team of filmmakers from Pune, India take a broad but highly personal view of the medium in all its varied forms, from shortwave enthusiasts to commercial broadcasters and radio amateurs, focusing on a handful of its most passionate practitioners.
As someone who has been a radio amateur for more than half of hER life, Bharati VU2RBI plays a central role in the film, giving the camera crew access to her 'shack' in Hyderabad earlier this year and introducing the many members. from her large family of radio amateurs, including her husband, VU2DBP; her daughter, VU2DTR; and her son, VU3DVS. The veteran DXpeditioner, who has assisted extensively in disaster management communications and has received many awards around the world, is an advocate and educator of amateur radio education, particularly for Yls.
