German yl enjoyed her First Contest
23 February, 2025 Sunday it was time, I dared to participate in the beginner contest for the first time. Fortunately, I have Gerd DL2EGS by my side to help me with advice and action. From the Halde Haniel (JO31kn) I had a good position. Admittedly, I was already excited when so many QSOs came together, sparks, writing, time, number, locator, wind. In the end, there were 57 QSOs, the furthest with 104 km.
Thank you so much to all YLs and OMs for connecting and supporting me in my first contest. This was already fun. Learned a lot and some ideas for next time. We also had a visit to the Halde Kathleen DN9KTH, Frank DK2EG and Sebastian DO2SEB. It's nice that you stopped by on a spontaneous note. Vy 73 Christiane DN9CH
At 159 meters elevation, Halde Haniel is the highest accessible coal slag heap in the Ruhr area, west-central Germany. At the summit there is a totem sculpture park and below an open air chapel with a large cross and an amphitheater. It is a popular hiking and leisure destination.

Australian yl receives Slow Scan TV from ISS
Bambi VK4AYL (SSTV) In Brisbane, ALARA member Bambi VK4AYL had some images received from the International Space Station (ISS) via Slow Scan Television (SSTV). She said that the SSTV transmissions have recently been restored after a near 2-year break because of hardware issues on the ISS.
Instead of using a ground plane for reception as she had done in the past, she opted to use a hand-held 3 element yagi antenna made for Direction Finding events (ARDF). An ICOM IC-R10 Communications receiver and a TASCAM DR-701D audio digital recorder rounded out her portable setup in a Brisbane Park (Australia).
In the evening after Sunset, passes of the ISS can be seen visually and that assists with antenna orientation.
She also showed the QSL confirmation certificate received from the ARISS Committee. Well done Bambi!

Dutch Young Ladies Club Proud 2B PI4YLC in 2024
Posted on 25/01/2025 by pa1eng: In 2024 we participated in three contests including the PACC. In addition, we were present at the HF day with a number of YLs.
PACC 10/11 February, 2024
This year it was not possible to contest with a large group due to other plans of the YLs. That is why Mariëtte PA1ENG and Claudia PA5CT were active this time from Oggelvorsenpoel, as Esch is called during carnival. After a pile-ip in CW and SSB we closed the contest with 625 QSO's.
ARI 4/5 May, 2024
In this contest PI4YLC was activated by Claudia PA5CT and Heather PD3GVQ in CW, SSB and RTTY. All in all a pleasant contest, with excellent conditions, although no QSO's on 10m were possible, but with great food conditions and a lot of fun.
Portugal day 8/9 June 2024
The Dutch Young Ladies Club had not participated in the Portugal Day contest before, where unfortunately only a few Portuguese stations were active. We do not think we will put this on the program again next year. Fortunately we had a lot of fun, so no regrets about this contest participation.
HF Day September 21st, 2024
At the HF day in Hoevelaken there were interesting lectures about DX-peditions and Websdr, prizes for contests were awarded and there was enough space to meet acquaintances and strangers. There we also met other YLs who are active in our radio hobby.
There are already plans for 2025. We want to participate in the HA-DX contest and there are already ideas for the PACC. We also want to do more things…

Peru Lighthouse Activation - American Lighthouse Weekend 2025
Sonia Macher Medina OA4DEM, from Peru.
Tue 18 Feb, 2025 Good morning. Here I am, OA4DEM, transmitting from Cerro Azul Lighthouse (PER 055) for the American Lighthouse Weekend. More information about this lighthouse can be found at QRZ.com. Our special callsign was OC4FCA. We continue with our radio activities. 73 OA4DEM

At kilometer 131 of the Panamericana Sur highway lies the Cerro Azul inlet, protected by Punta Centinela, on the top of which the remains of a pre-Hispanic building can still be seen. This inlet served the needs of the Cañete valley for several centuries, and in front of it, on June 17 and 18, 1615, a battle took place between the vice-regal fleet and that of the Dutch admiral Joris van Spilbergen, in which the Santa Ana galleon and the San Francisco petache were sunk, with the loss of more than 400 souls. In the 1870s, a small wooden dock and a railroad were built that linked the port with the valley, works that facilitated a relative sugar boom at the beginning of the 20th century. The construction of the Pan-American highway changed this situation, and in the middle of this century, Cerro Azul ceased to have port activity and was dedicated solely to fishing.
The old wooden pier was replaced by the reinforced concrete one that still serves the cove, on the head of which a fixed red light was installed on a white metal structure, with a range of 6 miles. This light was removed in the 1980s because six years earlier a lighthouse had been put into operation on the top of Punta Centinela.
This lighthouse was replaced in 2005 by a structure with a conical cement base, initially painted white and later black, and a fiberglass tower with the lower half white and the upper half black. The platform and the lamp-post, which are also black, house a lantern with a geographic range of 27 miles. (Sotelo, 2013)

Thank you very much for your condolences for DL3KWR Rosel Zenker.
The whole family and many radio amateurs came to Greifswald (northeastern Germany) on 14 February 2025 to accompany Rosel on her last journey. It was a very painful farewell. Vy 73 Hardy DL3KWF

Silent Key
The Rio Gallegos Radio Club Argentina, regrets to report the death of our colleague, Emilia Ana Ravetta "Milita" LU1XAS, at the age of 88.
Mother of Esteban Gonzalez LU2XBI of Pto.San Julián, she lived a life serving her community, both from the activity of amateur radio and also from her profession in the field of nursing.
From the institution we accompany her family in a strong radio hug, and at the same time we raise a prayer to heaven for her eternal rest.

Silent Key - Lisa Veraldi K0LIV, from the state of Colorado, USA, passed away the evening of Thursday, January 30, 2025.
She gained her General Amateur Radio license in 2021. A SOTA addict, she was accompanied on her mountain climbs by her beloved service dog Zara.
Lisa Veraldi, K0LIV, passed away last Thursday evening. Tuesday was her 68th birthday. I met Lisa the summer of 2020 while training on the incline in Castle Rock. She was wearing a “Marine Mom” t-shirt and we struck up a conversation. Lisa took me on an “interview” hike up Mt Morrison to see if I could keep up with her. I brought my HF rig and activated it at the summit sparking Lisa’s interest in Ham radio. I also hoisted her dogs up and down the boulders on the trail which earned me her, and her dogs’, friendship. Over the next year or so, Lisa hiked 40-50 summits with me. She led the way having already summited all of Colorado’s 14ers and over 200 of the 13ers. She logged my QSOs and soon I promoted her to Antenna Specialist, as she took over setting up the antenna while I set up the station. Eventually, she studied and earned her own license. Together we claimed 5 first activations on some tough peaks, like Mount Aetna, California Peak, Cronin, French and Casco. She also led the way on the trifecta of Sherman, Sheridan, and Horseshoe. She was a tough gal! After getting her own license, she continued to activate intending to make Mountain Goat. Many of you hiked with her in the last year or two. She logged 47 activations, and if she had been licensed when she hiked with me, Lisa would’ve been damn close to her Mountain Goat, if not there. A competitive body builder, rock and ice climber, mountain climber and SOTA activator, Lisa was a force of nature!
