Tracy Roberts  - It's good to see my name in the results but I am an OM, not a YL, so it is 17 YLs and 21 OMs. . It isn't the first time and won't be the last. My mother thought the name was a good idea in 1961!    73,  Tracy Roberts VK3TTT

Last weekend PI4YLC participated for the first time in the OK-OM DX SSB contest. We did this contest before in 2015, but then it was with the special call PI33YLC. This time the call PI4YLC was represented by Claudia PA5CT and Sonja PD4SON from Claudia's home QTH.
During the OK-OM DX SSB contest, the goal is to work as many Czech and Slovak stations as possible, but other stations also score points. Claudia and Sonja enjoyed the contest again this time and made 242 QSOs in 24 hours, most of them on 7 MHz. The 40m dipole, which Rens PA3FGA and Claudia had placed on Friday evening, did a good job! Claudia had a run at 40m and significantly increased the number of QSOs. Sonja usually did Search & Pounce and also got nice points with that. The logged result of PI4YLC in the OK-OM contest is 1268 points from QSOs with 62 countries.
We thank Rens PA3FGA, who keeps letting us grow one step further in contesting with multiple operators. Because the set-up is still under development, we entered a contest in the Multi Operator Single Transmitter category (MOST) but in the future we can work towards a Multi Operator 2 Transmitters (MO2T). At MO2T, both operators are constantly behind one of the two radios. That's quite strenuous for the two operators available. Now the YLs could alternate with MOST.

JQ1ARQ Kazue "KAZU" Nakata Field Day Contest      2021 11 Aug.
Kazu (from Japan) participated in the Field Day Contest again this year. She usually operates from  home,  but  the field day contest means an opportunity to operate some where else  and to work with other club members., as part of the  JO1YYP -  YYP  DX & Contest Club.
An online meeting was held about one month before the field day.  Since 160m has been added from this year, there is a lot of equipment, operation, and content to consider.
As the threat from Covid was active they had to take measures against infection and  just before  the event  participants confirmed the infection was under control.
When it's hot so you can remove the mask so that you don't get sick, but don't talk at that time, wear a mask when talking, only talk using , chat as usual during operation, don't talk during meals.
They travelled to Tsukuba  located  approximately 50 kilometers from central Tokyo.
The Waiwai Club FD team has four members, but this time there were  only three members.
It was the first time for everyone to use N1MM,

(Kazu had been practicing N1MM in an individual participation contest for this FD!)
There aren't many photos because of the bad weather this time ,(lots of rain), but JQ1ARQ  KAZU made a slide show:
https://www.facebook.com/
(Google translation & your editor did our best, but the slide show tells the story.)

YL Scout from Brasil takes 1st  PLACE!
PU2PRM- Beatriz Pata, a scout from Grupo Escoteiro Cruz Azul Campinas 92 / SP
(São Paulo) took 1st  place in the two modes in which she competed in the Green and Yellow Radioamator Contest, promoted by the Brazilian Army.
Using her own callsign (PU2PRM)  she stayed at the top of the SSB (phonia) and CW (morse code) modes. Everyone is very proud and happy for this achievement.

Created over 50 years ago,  CVA DX Contest  (Concurso Verde e Amarelo/ The Green and Yellow Contest), is the most traditional amateur radio contest in Brazil . 2021 was  the 62nd edition of the competition  always held on the third weekend of August in CW mode and on the fourth weekend of August in SSB mode.

Licensed in 2018 IU2LXR Micol the  "space" teacher from Milan, Italy talks  to the astronauts on ISS (International Space Station). She is part of the volunteer team of the Casale Monferrato Telebridge station.  The station is part of  the ARISS network (Amateur radio on the International space station), an international group of radio amateurs, which manages contacts with astronauts.
Schools all over the world are able to let their students talk to the scientists aboard the ISS, the giant space laboratory that orbits the Earth, completing just under 16 orbits in 24 hours. On clear days it can be seen with the naked eye.
Contact with schools can take place in two ways. The first is by placing the equipment on the roof, but sometimes the horizon is not open enough. The second method is the connection provided by Telebridge, which allows the school to connect via teleconference
Middle school Mathematics and Sciences teacher Micol knew nothing about radio or ARISS, but everything changed in 2006 when she met the Italian astronaut Paolo Nespoli IZ0JPA  in one of the schools where she was teaching.
Because space and the International Space Station (ISS) have a special place in her life Micol shares her passion with her students in such projects as growing micro-vegetables, as in a space green-house; or she teaches the children to pick up sound signals which when decoded, turn out to be an image taken in space! Or she sets the students tasks wearing double gloves, to simulate the awkwardness of an astronaut suit.
21 years ago on November 13, 2000, the ISS Expedition-1 crew turned on the ARISS Ericsson radio for the first time.

Faith Hannah Lea, KD3Z - Amateur Radio Newsline 2021 Young Ham of the Year
Faith Hannah Lea, KD3Z, of Palm Coast, Florida, has been selected as the 2021 Bill Pasternak WA6ITF Memorial Amateur Radio Newsline Young Ham of the Year. Faith Hannah comes from an all-ham family. She is the daughter of James Lea, WX4TV, and Michelle Lea, N8ZQZ. Her brother and two sisters are also hams. She credited her parents with being the biggest influences in her entry into amateur radio at the age of 10 in 2014. Just 18 months after being licensed, Faith Hannah was invited to join the 2016 Dave Kalter Memorial Youth DX team, which operated from the Saba station of Jeff Jolie, as PJ6/NM1Y. (Caribbean island)
“And that’s when I realized especially that DXing is amazing, because I absolutely love those huge pileups and getting to talk to all of those different people,” she explained.
Among her PJ6 achievements was a satellite contact that broke the SO-50 distance world record. Her account of the event appeared in the March/April 2017 issue of The AMSAT Journal.
In August 2018, Faith Hannah took part in the week-long Youngsters on the Air (YOTA) camp in Johannesburg, South Africa, where she participated in kit building, antenna projects, satellite operation, and a high-altitude balloon launch. An article about her experiences in South Africa appeared in CQ Magazine.
On the way to South Africa, Faith Hannah and her father had a 22-hour layover in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates. While there, they were invited by the Emirates Amateur Radio Society to visit and operate A62A and A60YOZ.
In December 2018, Faith Hannah, her younger sister, Hope, ND2L, and their father organized a 36-hour mini DXpedition to the Dry Tortugas in the Gulf of Mexico, off the southwest coast of Florida, where they operated as N4T. The family team put 1,970 HF contacts and 100 satellite contacts into the log. CQ published Faith Hannah’s account of the N4T operation, and she and Hope shared the April 2019 cover of the magazine.

Radio Club of  America Celebrates 100 Year Anniversary of  Transatlantic Test

In 1921, on December 9, 10, 11, radio amateurs, who were members of both the Radio Club of America (RCA) and the American Radio Relay League (ARRL), successfully spanned for the first time the Atlantic Ocean from the United States to Androssan Scotland with Morse code signals. Not only were the signals heard in Scotland, but also in Amsterdam Holland (3600 miles), England, Germany, Puerto Rico, Vancouver British Columbia in Canada, Catalina island California (2470 mi.), and the State of Washington.
To understand the significance of this Transatlantic Test by amateurs, we first have to go back to December 1901. At that time, Marconi first reported that radio signals could be sent across the Atlantic Ocean. But all that was heard was the letter ‘S’ in Morse code.  Marconi’s stations were very expensive to install, and wireless communications seemed out of the reach of most people.
Until 1921 transatlantic radio communications were utilizing very long wave frequencies in the area of 500 meters,  Meanwhile, amateurs were utilizing the shorter wavelength of 200 meters and crystal detector-based receivers and spark transmitter, usually limited to relatively short distances.
But this Transatlantic Test Project, conceived of by radio amateurs (“hams”), proved that even with modest equipment, the Atlantic Ocean could be spanned, opening up improved communications for many more purposes.

Editor: While we  cannot know whether yl Eunice (below) heard the transmissions (above) – she may have!

W1MPP - Eunice Randall Thompson.jpg

1XE -> 1CDP -> W1MPP - Randall Thompson, Eunice - USA
Eunice dates her start in radio as 1917 when she worked for experimental station 1XE at Medford Hillside, Mass., her first Ham Ticket in 1921. Eunice's activities at 1XE were recounted in QST for July, 1921, and her amateur work in September of that year. Following this announcement of a first district YL, a letter appeared in December, 1921 QST from 5ZT claiming that the Houston Radio Club had four YLs and that he could name ten more who were operating in the fifth district.
Her call then was 1CDP and she operated from her home near New Bedford. Her actual station was remotely controlled, a line extending from her brother's mill a quarter mile away. "The noise from the quenched spark gap-wow!" is her comment. But she adds: "200 meters was so wonderful!" In 1929 Eunice went to work for the New England Power Company in Boston and stayed there until her retirement. In 1938 she went on the air as W1MPP from Watertown, Mass., later from her home at Lovell, Me. Over the years Eunice added many hobbies to that of Ham radio: she liked to paint, did needle point and petit point, collected buttons and coins, made jewelry and ceramic pieces. She also hooked rugs and learned Braille to do some transcribing to help where there was such a need.  (Source: CQ-YL, p 67, plus photo)
